Letters : Rome, 1838, 1856, 1859.

Three letters from Johann Friedrich Overbeck, one, 1838 Aug. 11, to Rittner and Goupes in Paris, concerning a commission to convert a drawing into an etching. Overbeck states, he is well aware of the fact that the French are becoming more receptive to religious art in general and the Nazarene style of painting in particular. A personal letter to his friend Joseph Sutter, 1856 Oct. 22, enclosed is some financial assistance for the ailing painter. One letter, 1859 Feb. 1, to the painter August Riedel in his function as the President of the German K"unstlerversammlung, explains why he is rejecting an invitation to be a member of the jury for an exhibition planned by that organization. With a lithograph portrait of Overbeck.
